Maida for Mayor; Slay Nets Another $15k

Last night at Sen. Kevin Engler's holiday bipartisan love-fest, out-going state senator Maida Coleman was telling her former colleagues that she was going to run for mayor of St. Louis.  Furthermore the rumor is that former state representative John Bowman is set to be her campaign manager.

Meanwhile, Francis Slay filed another fundraising report showing $15,000 more raised, $5k from H.O.G. Properties, $5k from Dobbs Tire and Auto Service, and $5k from Husch Blackwell and Sanders.

Mayoral Campaign Tidbits

Usually the mayoral election (in March) is pretty quiet until after the November elections. But here are a few tidbits:

The Slay campaign rolled out a couple of announcements on his website, Mayorslay.com

Whispers expect another big quarter from Slay when it's filed next week.

And the latest names mentioned as possible opponents are Eric Vickers and Irene Smith.

Colleen Bridges Running in 23?

Colleen Bridges has a website up indicating that she is running for alderman in ward 23.

Previously we mentioned that Joe Vaccaro had started a campaign committee for alderman as well.

Looks like a nice primary is shaping up there this spring.

No word on whether the incumbent Kathleen Hanrahan is running for re-election.

Slay Polling?

Sounds like it from these notes from someone who got the call last night. Again, these are one person's notes, not a verbatim transcript, so take with grain of salt:

Are you a likely Democratic voter?

Are you happy with the direction the state is going?

Are you happy with the direction the city schools are going?

Are you happy with the direction the city is going?

What is the most important job of the mayor - education, job creation, crime, development, race relations?

Who would you vote for between Francis Slay and Lacy Clay?

Rate the job Slay is doing / Clay is doing.

How is the city doing?

Approve of the job your alderman is doing?

Approve of the job the mayor is doing?

Approve of the job that Darlene Green is doing?

Approve of the job that Jow Mokwa is doing?

Approve of the job that Lacy Clay is doing?

Approve of the job that Lewis Reed is doing?

Approve of the job that Mike McMillan is doing?

Approve of the job that Jennifer Joyce is doing?

Approve of the job that Sherman George is doing?

Approve of the mayor's job with regard to downtown development?

Approve of the mayor's job with regard to city schools?

Approve of the mayor's job with regard to fire department?

Approve of the mayor's job with regard to the police department?

Is crime going up or down in your area?

Is crime going up or down in your neighborhood?

Are race relations improving or not?

How important are race relation to you?

Do you support the use of TIF and eminent domain?

Do you support Sherman George's handling of the tests for the fire department?

Who would you vote for: Slay or McMillan?  Slay or Reed?  Slay or Green?  Slay or George?  Slay or Clay?

Would you describe yourself as conservative or liberal?

What is your race?

What is your level of education?
